Pop Sonnets
by Erik Didriksen
A collection of brilliant reworkings of modern songs into Shakespearian verse from Quirk Books. When wondering how to simultaneously reference contemporary music and the Elizabethan era, this famous Bruce Springsteen image came to mind; once the guitar was traded for a lute, the rest came easily.
For the case wrap, I thought how funny it would be to print sheet music for one of the songs. When I asked the author if he'd mind giving Journey's Don't Stop Believin' the sonnet treatment, he was all in.
In keeping with the Elizabethan theme, each section featured an etching of a coat of arms; I redrew these to incorporate modern touches like graffiti or sunglasses.
